Corrosion, pitting, warping of steel plates, mechanical damage, and marine biofouling all lead to a considerable deterioration in surface roughness. Proper maintenance of the propeller and timely repainting with antifouling and fouling prevention coatings reduce hydrodynamic resistance, contributing not only to fuel efficiency but also to the reduction of CO2 emissions.
